No Job Is Too Big Or Too Small, Furr Grading and Paving, Inc. Can Handle It All!
April 29, 1942 - March 6, 2022
Growing up in a house with a dirt floor in a cotton mill community, Jackie Furr was reared by his grandmother Lula Furr. Throughout his youth, Jackie continued to develop into a hard-working young man, and that eventually translated to his athletic career. As a student-athlete at Cheraw High School, he used his tough upbringing to make an impact on the sports he played.
In high school, Jackie was a multi-sport athlete, playing baseball and football for the Braves. He was a four-year letterman in both sports. As a football player, he was widely regarded as one of the toughest players on the team and often was feared by opponents.
After his high school graduation, he accepted an offer to play football at Gardner- Webb University. While enrolled at Gardner-Webb, he earned All-American honors both seasons he played for the Bulldogs. After earning his associate degree in business in 1964, Jackie moved on to the next chapter in his life, opening a successful business.
Building a business and legacy from the gravel up.
In 1966, Jackie initially opened a landscaping business with himself as the sole employee, a backhoe and a dump truck. As he continued to operate the business, he was able to expand in 1970.
That year, Jackie added paving and grading to his services, and the business was rebranded as Furr Grading and Paving. He was also the owner of the only asphalt plant in the surrounding area at the time and would be for many years.
In 1979, Jackie purchased the 348-acre facility that houses the business today. Jackie built a reputable business that serves the local community and surrounding areas, he’s always had a focus on creating a positive customer experience.
Jackie Farrell Furr passed away at the age of 79 on Sunday, March 6, surrounded by his family.
Jackie’s legacy lives on through the way he loved, his compassion for his local community and through the many lives he touched while
he was on this earth.
